SENATE APPROVES RESO URGING GOVT TO SAVE
THE IFUGAO RICE TERRACES

The Senate on Tuesday approved Senate Resolution 650, urging government agencies to work together to save the Rice Terraces of the Philippine Cordilleras from degradation.

The resolution, authored by Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan, Chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Food seeks to push for programs that would encourage Filipinos, particularly the youth, to appreciate the historical and cultural significance of the Cordillera Rice Terraces, which were inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1995.

"The Rice Terraces embody the ingenuity and craftsmanship of our ancestors, and these embodiments should be carried on to the next generation. As such it is of extreme importance that we take action in preserving this living cultural legacy," Pangilinan said. "It has existed for 2,000 years. We must do all that we possibly can to preserve this wonder of the world."

The resolution was introduced by 12 senators and adopted unanimously.
