PRESS STATEMENT ON SENATOR SANTIAGO'S ELECTION AS ICC JUDGE

Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago's impending departure deeply saddens us, with her having been elected to the International Criminal Court. Her experience and expertise in the field of law will be missed in the Senate.

While her departure will be a great loss to the Senate, we are looking forward to the greater honor she will be bringing to the country. Being vastly knowledgeable in international law, she is indisputably most qualified to the position.

As a woman of courage, justice and integrity, Senator Santiago will make a valuable contribution as member of the international court. Knowing her, she will stanchly perform her duty according to the rule of law and without compromising the noble goal of the establishment of the ICC, which is to end impunity for the culprits of the grave crimes concerning the international community.
