Press Release June 5, 2012 Transcript of Interview of Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile On the appeal of the verdict of former Chief Justice Corona in the Supreme Court Q: Sir, may petisyon ata ngayon na kukwestiyunin ata 'yung proceedings at ang verdict kay CJ Corona... SP: Sino ang mag kukwestiyon? Q: Si Homobono Adaza, sir... SP: Okay lang. We have no problem. Everyone is entitled to go to the Supreme Court. They will ask us to answer depending upon the position taken by the Senate. Q: Will you meet them there? SP: I don't know. I cannot say whether we will or we will not because our position is that our judgment is not appealable and I don't think that they can show that we violated any rule or that we have abused our discretion. Q: Sir, kung hindi po appealable 'yun at aaksyunan ng Supreme Court, anong implication nun, sir? SP: Let us not anticipate the problem. Q: Pero pwede po ba 'yun aksyunan ng Supreme Court? SP: Bahala sila. There will be a problem anyway. Q: Sir, hindi ba malinaw that the Senate has the sole power to try an impeachment case? SP: 'Yun na nga ang aming intindi. I do not know if Bono Adaza has any standing in the court to question the decision because he's not a lawyer for the respondent unless he is authorized by the respondent. Q: So, sir, ibig sabihin magulo? SP: Hindi ko na sasabihin 'yun. |
