On the second-hand PNP helicopter purchase anomaly
The Ombudsman has acted efficiently and effectively
In the Complaint filed by the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee

I join my colleagues in the Senate in commending the Office of the Ombudsman for its immediate action on the complaint filed against former First Gentleman Mike Arroyo and several others in connection with the anomalous purchase of second-hand helicopters by the Philippine National Police.

This is a welcome development and sends an important signal to all that the Office of the Ombudsman is serious and determined in its mission of investigating and prosecuting those who have squandered both the trust and the money of the people. This happened because the Senate referred Committee Report No. 74 to Ombudsman last October 13, 2011 for preliminary investigation.

We are also heartened by the importance shown by the Office of the Ombudsman to the work and recommendation of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee. By seriously considering and acting on the Committee's recommendation that charges be filed against the parties concerned, the Ombudsman underscored the importance of collaboration among the various branches of the government in the country's battle against corruption and the elements that perpetuate this evil in our society.
