Senator Marcos inaugurated public school facilities
in Lubang Island, Occidental Mindoro

Residents and local officials of Occidental Mindoro on Friday warmly welcomed Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. in his first ever visit on a remote and isolated island of Lubang.

Senator Marcos took his time and visited Lubang Island while Congress was in recess to personally checked the completion of an important public school infrastructure facilities his office was initiated for the benefits of thousands students here.

The senator from Ilocos, immediately upon his arrival here, led the blessing and inauguration of the newly-constructed P1 million New Gateway facilities of Lubang Integrated School and Lubang Central School at Barangay Araw at Bituin.

In his welcome remarks, Lubang Mayor Juan M. Sanchez told Senator Marcos that the 28, 267 residents of Lubang was very elated and honored for the first ever visit of a son of the late President Ferdinand Marcos in the island.

"Mga kababayan, napakalaking karangalan na tayo ay bisitahin ni Senator Bongbong Marcos. I can see in Senator Bongbong the eloquence, brilliance leadership and strength of character of his father. Senator Bongbong was born, raised, educated, trained and experienced to become a good leader of our country," Mayor Sanchez said.

As he moved around the area, Senator Marcos distributed boxes of free school supplies such as notebooks and pencils to indigent elementary pupils of Lubang Central School.

After which, Senator Marcos motored to Maligaya Elementary School where he observed the demonstration of One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) made by Grade 6 Science Teacher Ronald Samonte.

Since 2010, Lubang has implemented the OLPC educational program providing free laptop computer to every Grade 4 to Grade 6 students of the municipality. The laptop computer was used as an aid in their study on Math, Science, English and Makabayan subjects.

The Lubang OLPC educational program is the first in the Philippines and probably in the Southeast Asia. Under the program, every student can bring the assigned laptop computer in their home and they can keep it for three years until they can be able to completed his/her elementary schooling.

Before he leaves the island, Senator Marcos also visited Lubang National High School at Barangay Tilik where he led the blessing and inauguration of the newly-completed P1 million Multi-Purpose Hall.

En-route to Lubang Airport, Senator Marcos dropped-by at the Port of Lubang and inspected its Roll-On, Roll-Off Piers and world class passenger terminal.
