Senator Marcos welcomes passage of Ilagan cityhood law

Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr., Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local Government, on Wednesday lauded the approval of Republic Act 10169, or the act converting Ilagan, Isabela into a component city.

"The conversion of Ilagan into city will definitely enhance the capability of respective local government unit to deliver the needed basic services to its inhabitants," Senator Marcos noted.

Senator Marcos made the statement after the bill converting the municipality of Ilagan into a city was signed into law by President Benigno S. Aquino last June 21, 2012.

Senator Marcos said Ilagan has the right to be converted to a city as it possesses all the legal requirements. He added that as such, Ilagan City's momentum of progress would be enhanced and it would become a more effective partner of the national government in promoting economic growth.

The Commission on Elections in Isabela is now preparing for the conduct of a plebiscite scheduled on August 11of this year.

If the cityhood bid gets the nod of the majority of the voters of Ilagan, Ilagan will be the fourth city in Region 2, joining Santiago City and Cauayan City, both in Isabela, and Tuguegarao City in Cagayan.
