Statement of Sen. Loren Legarda, Chair of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, on the Hostage-taking of Filipino Peacekeepers

The hostage-taking of Filipino Peacekeepers is regrettable. There is no cogent reason whatsoever that can justify this senseless act. This does not mean, however, that our resolve as a people to help keep peace in the world should wane. This is part of the risk we take when our country decided to contribute to peacekeeping efforts. Our government, in coordination with the UN, should exert all efforts to bring them back to their families.
