Poe vows: "Ang inumpisahan ng tatay ko, itutuloy ko"
Family commemorates 74th bday of FPJ

Senator Grace Poe on Tuesday led the gathering of family and friends to commemorate the 74th birth anniversary of Fernando Poe, Jr.

Senator Poe's husband Teodoro Misael "Neil" Llamanzares and eldest son Brian also attended the mass held at FPJ's grave at the North Cemetery in Manila.

"Today we remember FPJ, a hero to many of us," Poe said. "Let us also remember his dreams: He aspired for a country where Filipinos can and live the good life," Poe said.

"The best way to honor his memory is to help improve the lives of the poor--the people he always fought for when he was alive. Ang inumpisahan ng tatay ko, itutuloy ko," Poe added.

FPJ was born on August 20, 1939 and died on December 14, 2004, at the age of 65.

Dubbed as the king of Philippine Cinema, FPJ was posthumously awarded the National Artist for Film on 2006. It was confirmed by President Benigno S.C. Aquino III on July 20, 2012.

He starred in and produced over a hundred films during his career that spun decades.

Determined to institute reforms, FPJ ran for President in the questionable 2004 elections, but lost to then-incumbent Gloria Macapagal Arroyo amid reported massive electoral fraud.
