Senate commends 9 TOYM awardees

The Senate today joined the Junior Chamber International - Philippines, Inc., (JCI), the Gerry Roxas Foundation, Inc., and the TOYM Foundation, Inc. in congratulating and commending nine young Filipinos for bagging the Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) of the Philippines 2013 award.

According to Resolution 421, authored by Sen. Manuel "Lito" Lapid the awardees were chosen by JCI from a long list of nominees to receive the respected TOYM Award that would best embody this year's theme, which is "Heroes Need Heroes".

The resolution was adopted in consideration of Senate Resolution No. 451 authored by Sen. Maria Lourdes Nancy Binay.

This year's awardees, who include professional basketball player Christopher John Alandy Tiu who received the award for Youth Leadership Development, are Emerson Atanado for Social Entrepreneurship; Nicole Paula Curato for Sociology; Custer Deocaris for Science Communications; Miguel Rene Dominguez for Government and Public Service; June Cheryl Cabal-Revilla for Community Service; Alonzo Gabriel for Food Science & Technology; Karl Michael Reyes for Medicine; Paolo Antonio S. Silva for Medicine.

Organized in 1959, the TOYM Awards is an annual project aimed at recognizing young men and women whose selfless dedication to their profession and fields of endeavor resulted to significant contributions to Philippine growth thereby benefitting the Filipino people. (YVONNE ALMIRAÑEZ)
