Cayetano: Binay wrong to say Tuason testimony a dud

Senate Majority Leader Alan Peter "Companero" S. Cayetano on Thursday chided Vice President Jejomar Binay for prejudging the testimony of self-confessed pork barrel scam conduit Ruby Tuason as a "dud."

During the resumption of the hearing of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee on the controversy, Cayetano read aloud a news report where Binay allegedly belittled Tuason's testimony.

"Ako, when I heard [about Tuason's testimony], hindi muna ako nag-comment kung slum dunk o kung dud because gusto namin na nandito siya at tetestingin naming. For example, si Ms. Napoles, hindi ko napatunayan na nagsasabi siya ng totoo. Napatunayan ko sa aking pagtatanong na nagsasabi siya ng kasinungalingan," he said.

"But it is important for the public to hear all the opinions. Kung opinyon ni Vice President yun before, let us see what his opinion is after this hearing."

Binay was interviewed last Sunday in Lucena City by reporters, where he was asked to comment on the Department of Justice's statement that Tuason's testimony was "slam dunk evidence" against the former's allies Sens. Juan Ponce Enrile and Jinggoy Estrada.

The vice president reportedly said it was a dud. DOJ Secretary Leila de Lima reportedly responded by saying that Binay should not be undermining the efforts of the government to curb corruption.
