Senate commends beauty queen Angeli Gomez

The Senate today unanimously adopted a resolution commending Angeli Dione Barbas Gomez for winning the 17th Miss Tourism International crown in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last December.

Gomez defeated 59 other candidates from all over the world and is the third Filipina to win the title.

Senator Manuel "Lito" Lapid, who introduced Resolution No. 559, said Gomez deserved to be honored for "showing the world the excellence of Filipino beauty."

Gomez is currently studying at the International Academy of Film and Television (IAFT) in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu. She hopes to start a career in the film making industry and set designing.

According to pageant organizers, Gomez will be "a travelling ambassador in promoting informal international relations between countries to spread the message of peace, goodwill, and friendship."

The 20-year-old beauty queen said her advocacy is "to establish housing and rehabilitation centers for the homeless kids and victims of various abuses."

Prior to winning the Miss Tourism International crown and the Mutya ng Pilipinas crown, Gomez also won the 2012 Reyna ng Aliwan title, representing Cebu. (Mae Joy Albano-Miranda)
