Statement of Senator Nancy Binay on Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire's winning the WBA featherweight crown

My warmest congratulations to one of the fighting pride of the Philippines, Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire, for bringing home the World Boxing Association (WBA) featherweight crown. With this win, Mr Donaire demonstrated his class and ability across five divisions in boxing.

Despite adversity, he showed the world that the Filipino can compete with the world's best and the brightest inside the ring.

Mr Donaire also proved that whatever challenges in front of one's self can be conquered with hard work, faith and trust in one's self and the Almighty.

His exploits are an inspiration to us Filipinos, which encourage us to do our best and be the best in our undertakings.
