Statement of Senator Nancy Binay on Independence Day

We celebrate 116 years of independence today, a liberty hard won and sustained by the blood, sweat and tears of freedom-loving Filipinos over the years.

The national fabric has many stories of Filipinos' heroic deeds, of determination and gallantry, of giving their day so that we will enjoy our tomorrow.

These days, we face many hardships and challenges. But I am optimistic that we Filipinos will show what our ancestors have shown before - the perseverance, the resolve, and the confidence to overcome whatever adversity we face.

Over a century ago, we dared to stand and proclaim our self-determination. Today, we are still standing, and ready to defend our God-given right.
