Koko wants CCTV cameras installed at Laguindingan airport

Senator Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III today urged airport authorities to install CCTV cameras at the vicinity of the Laguindingan airport in Cagayan de Oro city to deter criminals from staging daring attacks.

Pimentel noticed that the place where Iligan City Rep. Vicente "Varph" Belmonte was attacked on Thursday by gunmen that resulted in the death of his three companions is secluded and inhabited.

"Maski may mangholdap doon walang makakaalam," said Pimentel, a native of Cagayan de Oro City.

The area is also poorly lighted that air travellers using the new airport are at risk when travelling at night.

He recalled that the absence of CCTV cameras at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 left police facing a blank wall after gunmen shot dead Mayor Ukol Talumpa of Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur and three other victims in December last year.

Pimentel said the broad daylight attack against a member of Congress is extremely deplorable, asking police to immediately resolve the case for the sake of peace in Mindanao.

He said the culprits, especially the mastermind, should be arrested at the soonest possible time, tried and locked behind bars.
