On the resignation of Senator Chiz as Finance Committee chair

Q: Sir, 'yung statement lang po ninyo sa resignation ni Senator Chiz as Finance Committee Chairperson?

SPFMD: Commendable na siya po ay nagbitiw dahil sa napipintong halalan sa 2016. Mainit na ang politika ngayon at tama na 'yon nagbitiw si Senator Chiz para wala pong makapagsabi na gagamitin ang national budget para sa kanyang kandidatura kung sakali man na siya po ay tumakbo sa 2016.

Kaya sa akin, tama ang ginawa niya at siguro kukunsultahin ko ang aking mga kasama sa majority coalition kung sino ang papalit. Dahilan sa hindi pa naman darating sa amin ang budget, hanggang siguro 10 araw pa, at ngayon lang sinumite sa Kamara de Representante, ito'y ia-assign pa sa Committee on Appropriations. And as a matter of tradition, mga isang linggo bago naming umpisahan ang hearing sa budget sa Senado, one week from the time the House starts their committee deliberation. So, we have enough time.

Q: Sir, kailangan bang pagpilian yung apat na vice chair?

SPFMD: Kahit sino.

Q: Sir, sino ang gusto mo to replace Senator Chiz?

SPFMD: I was surprised by his announcement. I haven't given it much thought yet.

Q: Pero sir, preferable ba na hindi tatakbo sa election ang hahawak ng finance committee?

SPFMD: I don't have any standard on this. At this point, everybody is qualified.

Q: Sir, any other committees na dapat mag-resign din po para hindi ma-use for next year?

SPFMD: Wala akong nakikita at this point. Nasa mga committee chairman po iyan. Traditionally, wala naman ganoon. Bukas na bukas itong Senado kahit anong gawin mo. Transparent kami dtto kaya nakikita naman kung ginagamit ang tanggapan.

On the 2015 SONA

Q: Sir, ano ang chance ng Anti-Political Dynasty bill?

SPFMD: Sinusuportahan ko ng 100% ang Anti-Dynasty bill ngunit kailangan po talaga na itutulak ng husto at yan ay hindi madaling gawin sa Senado at Kongreso. Ngayon, hindi ko alam in what shape or form it will come out but I'm 100% behind it.

Q: But would the Senate have time to squeeze it in kasi may budget deliberations pa?

SPFMD: We will see.

Q: Sir, does it become a priority of the Senate now na pinu-push sya ni PNoy talaga?

SPFMD: I haven't discussed it with my colleagues.

Q: Sir, doon sa SONA lang, yung mga nag-rally, clarification lang, did you say boo?

SPFMD: Given the issues of the day, that's beside the point.

Q: Sir, doon sa Anti-Political Dynasty, sabi po ni Senator Nancy dapat din pong tingnan yung mga family within the appointees sa government.

SPFMD: Well, that is a view that will be considered when we debate on the measure.
