MARCOS: NEW SK LAW A BIG BOOST TO YOUTH EMPOWERMENT

Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" R. Marcos has lauded the enactment of the Sangguniang Kabataan Reform Act of 2016 saying it will further enhance youth empowerment in the affairs of government and nation-building.

Marcos, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local Government, was a co-author and a principal sponsor of the SK Reform Act in the Senate.

Speaking before students of the Centro Escolar University, Marcos stressed that with the new law, he expects more meaningful youth participation in the SK that will bring about reforms and progress in the youth sector. "As co-author and principal sponsor of the measure in the Senate it is gratifying to see the culmination of years of sustained efforts to provide a new framework for a more responsive youth institution," Marcos said.

He added, "(w)ith important features such as fiscal autonomy and mandatory training programs, I am confident this new law will truly empower youth leaders not only in addressing issues unique to their sector but also for meaningful contribution to local governance and nation-building."

During his first stint as Representative during the 9th Congress (1992 to 1995), Marcos was the author of the bill which paved the way for the creation of the National Youth Commission, which works hand in hand with the SK.

Marcos further stated that with the signing of new SK law, the nation "will see a new breed of youth leaders who would truly represent our hope for a brighter future for our country."
