LAS PIÑAS REP. MARK VILLAR, MAYOR NENE AGUILAR, AND CITY OFFICIALS PLEDGE SUPPORT FOR BONGBONG MARCOS

Officials of Las Piñas City, led by Rep. Mark Villar and Mayor Vergel "Nene" Aguilar today pledged their support for the vice presidential bid of Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" R. Marcos, Jr.

This developed after Marcos paid a courtesy call to Mayor Aguilar at the city hall when the senator's "Unity Caravan" rolled into the city.

In endorsing the candidacy of Marcos, Mayor Aguilar noted the senator's grasp of the concerns of local government units and officials because of his long experience in the executive as governor of Ilocos Norte.

Aguilar asked the city officials present, including all the chairmen of the city's 20 barangays, 12 city councilors, and 114 other barangay officials to take an oath to pledge their support for Marcos, who was the first national candidate to campaign in the city.

"I promise, not only to vote for Bongbong Marcos, but I will also get 30 others to vote for him. I will call and text all my friends. I will call my relatives to vote for Bongbong and Martin," said Aguilar in leading the oath.

Aguilar said he appreciates the call for unity of the senator, saying it was the same formula he followed to usher progress to the city. He said that after winning as mayor in 1995 he reached out to his former political foes and forgot all insults and tirades he had received from them.

For his part, Rep. Villar noted that Sen. Marcos was among the few friends who remained at their side at the most difficult moment when his father, former Senate President Manuel Villar and Nacionalista Party chief, ran for president.

"That is the one thing we could never forget. Senator Bongbong, thank you very much and of course you can always count on our support not just as a party mate but also as an extended family. Senator we welcome you here in Las Pinas," said Villar.

"Like I said, you're not just a friend but a member of family. We will always be here for your as you have been here for us," he added.

Aguilar and Villar also endorsed the senatorial bid of Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, cousin of Marcos. The endorsement of the political kingpins of the city is expected to deliver to Marcos and Romualdez the support of a big majority of the 350,000 registered voters in the city.

Marcos for his part thanked the Las Piñas City officials. "I am overwhelmed by your warm welcome and expression of support. Thank you very much," said Marcos, noting the huge crowd that mobbed him when he arrived at the city hall.
