Koko calls for the effective implementation of the law on Filipino athletes' incentives and benefits

The passing of a law is not enough.

Senate President Koko Pimentel is urging concerned agencies, departments, and companies to effectively implement RA 10699 granting our national athletes and coaches certain incentives and benefits.

Examples of discounts for the national athletes should come from "establishments relative to the utilization of transportation services, hotels, and other lodging establishments, restaurants, and recreations centers, and purchase of medicine and sports equipment...and discounts in admission fees in places of culture, leisure, and amusement," The law also includes free medical and dental consultations around the country and scholarships in universities.

"It is not enough that we join the merriment brought about by Filipino pride on the historic win of Hidilyn Diaz of a silver medal in the women's 53kg weightlifting event in the Rio 2016 Olympics. We must, in our own capacity, do our part to help our national athletes and coaches as they represent and do their best for the country, " Koko said in a statement.

Koko has always been an advocate of the Filipino athletes' welfare in promoting the country's excellence in sports.

He authored a Senate Bill 3322 for the Retirement, Health Care and Death Benefits of Professional Filipino Athletes when he was the Chairman on the Committee on Games, Amusement, and Professional Sports in 2013.
