PRESS STATEMENT OF SENATOR RICHARD J. GORDON ON THE MISS UNIVERSE PAGEANT

Congratulations to 24-year old Miss France Iris Mittenaere who was crowned this morning as the 65th Miss Universe at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Philippines. She would make a good Ambassador of Goodwill with her stylish looks and charming personality. I hope she will take on, as the new Miss Universe the advocacy and assist in alleviating human suffering in different parts of the globe.

I also extend my congratulations to our very own Maxine Medina. She showed the world the best of Filipina elegance, beauty and hospitality not only during the coronation pageant but also during the pre-pageant and preliminary competition. How you play the game is equally as important as winning it.

At least 86 candidates from different countries competed in the pageant. Not all of them may have won the crown or bagged a title, but I'm sure they will all return to their countries victorious. They will bring with them exciting and unforgettable memories of their month-long stay in the Philippines!
