Villar SIPAG gives plushie-making seminar to relocated residents

Fifty women from the National Housing Authority relocation site in Naic, Cavite were the participants in the plushie-making seminar conducted by Villar Social Institute for Poverty Alleviation and Governance (Villar SIPAG).

The participants are former Las Piñas settlers who will be trained to make handmade plush toys and pillows.

Sen. Cynthia Villar, director of Villar SIPAG, said a way to make relocation easier for residents is to introduce livelihood opportunities that they can do at home.

"We want our women to benefit from these training programs so that they can earn without the need to leave their children behind or sacrifice their responsibilities as home maker," Villar said.

Villar SIPAG partnered with Higos Project, a small enterprise in Naga City that aims to share skills to housewives, unemployed individuals, out of school youth and to organizations who want to invest in new livelihood that does not require big investments.

Also referred to as plush toys, handmade plushies are soft pillows or toys with adorable designs and are now popular in the market. These handmade plushies are ideal gift ideas and collection items for both children and adults which can be sold locally at affordable prices. Handmade plush toys can be sold from P 60 to P 350 depending on sizes and designs.

The training will include demonstration from trainers and hands-on activities for the participants. Participants will also be provided with basic entrepreneurship development training, financial literacy and lessons on starting a business. All 50 women will go home with a business starters' kit after the training.
