Sen. Bam calls BOC negligent and corrupt for allowing P6.4B shabu shipment

Sen. Bam Aquino criticized authorities for looking the other way while a shipment of P6.4 billion worth of shabu breezed through the Bureau of Customs.

Sen. Bam called it a case of "negligence with corruption", where some Customs employees accept bribes to deliberately overlook illegal shipments.

"Iyong lumalabas is either may collusion or may negligence. May mga kasabwat ba and therefore nakapasok ang droga? O mayroong hindi gumagawa ng trabaho nila kaya nakapasok ang droga?" explained Sen. Bam during the hearing of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee on the matter.

"This seems like it's something in the middle, which is negligence with corruption. Binabayaran ka na huwag kang titingin, huwag na alamin, basta huwag mong gagawin ang trabaho mo, kaya nakapasok ang droga," Sen. Bam said.

Upon questioning by Sen. Bam, the BOC revealed that the owners of the illegal drug shipment from China have already been arrested and in custody of Chinese authorities.

"Ginagamit ang kahinaan ng ating sistema sa Customs para makapagpasok ng droga sa bansa. Let's take this opportunity to strengthen our Customs and uncover links between China and the Philippine drug trade," Sen. Bam said.

"Marami pa ang kailangan halungkatin," said Sen. Bam as he expressed eagerness to continue his questioning in the next hearing.
