NANCY TO GOV'T: ADDRESS CONTRACTUALIZATION IN GOV'T AGENCIES

Senator Nancy Binay today said that the government should also address the issue of contractualization among its agencies.

"Sabi ko nga paulit-ulit sa hearing, ang concern ko yung biggest violator ng contractualization is government. Di ba dapat unahin muna ng pamahalaan yung pagsunod sa against contractualization." Binay said in an interview.

Binay cited the case of an employee of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) who remained a job order worker after 32 years.

"Nung budget hearing isipin mo may mga empleyado ang DSWD under job order. 32 years na nagtatrabaho tapos walang benefits yun. So isipin mo pag nagretire yun wala talaga siyang makukuha, kasi nga job order yung binigay sa kanya," the solon said.

She made the remark following the passage in the House of Representatives of House Bill No. 6908.

The bill legalizes contractual labor if allowed by the labor department, regularizes a contractual employee after six months, and provides contractual workers the same benefits as regular employees.

The measure also guarantees a probationary worker who had rendered at least a month of service and who would be terminated ahead of the six-month probation period, a termination pay equivalent to a half-month salary per month of service.
