De Lima's birthday wish for Duterte: Enlightenment

Opposition Senator Leila M. de Lima has wished for nothing but "enlightenment" for Mr. Duterte who is celebrating his 74th birthday today (March 28).

De Lima shared her birthday wish for Duterte at the sidelines of her trial for the illegal drug case filed against her at the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 256 at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) last March 27.

"Enlightenment. True and profound enlightenment. Happy birthday po," she said when prodded by the media to share her birthday wish for Duterte.

The lady Senator from Bicol wished for enlightenment as the President continues to unleash violence and terror to the populace through his bloody war on drugs and his unlawful policies targeting the poor and the defenseless.

Meanwhile, De Lima raised the issue of the possible involvement of the President and former Special Assistant to the President Bong Go in the illegal drug trade in the country amid the President's effort to defend former presidential economic adviser Michael Yang from accusations of involvement in the drug trade.

"Kailangan itanong natin, sangkot rin kaya si Pangulong Duterte at Bong Go sa iligal na droga. Mukhang sila ang tunay na protektor ng mga drug lords," she said.

"Kaya nga nila ito ginawa sa akin - itong mga kasinungalingan at mga pekeng kaso para ilihis ang taumbayan sa katotohanan, at pagtakpan ang kaniyang mga krimen - mga EJKs at ang pagkasangkot mismo nila sa iligal na droga," she added.

Dismissed police officer Eduardo Acierto recently came out to reveal that Yang (aka Yang Hong Ming), along with his business partners Allan Lim (aka Huen Li Gen or Ayong) and Johnson Chua (aka Chung Nga Way or Greg Sia) were allegedly into illegal drug trade.

Without proper investigation, Duterte quickly vouched for Yang, saying that the latter was a legitimate businessman who helped create local jobs.

Even presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo and Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesman Col. Bernard Banac were quick to clear Yang from any involvement in the illegal drug trade.

Just recently, De Lima urged Acierto to make public his intelligence report about the alleged links of Yang into illegal drug trade not only for public scrutiny but also to find out if Duterte's drug war is indeed a sham.

Considered as a leading prisoner of conscience, De Lima is currently detained at the PNP Custodial Center in Camp Crame, Quezon City for bogus drug charges invented by the Duterte administration for political reasons and personal vendetta.
