GORDON URGES BUSINESSOWNERS TO COMPLY WITH SAFETY AND HEALTH STANDARDS BASED ON R.A. 10058

Senator Richard J. Gordon encourages businessowners to follow the provision under Republic Act 10058 or the "Act of Strengthening Compliance with Occupational, Safety and Health (OSH) Standards" that states that employers should offer first aid training for their workers, that can be conducted by the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) or any other recognized institutions.

The Senator expressed his concern that most of the workplaces in the country do not have trained first aiders who could respond during emergencies.

Gordon cited the urgent death of Filipino veteran actor Eddie Garcia, who passed away after an accident during the filming of a local television series. He said, Garcia could have been survived and saved if there was a first aid responder during the time of the incident.

The Senator also pointed out during the Kapihan sa Manila this morning that the recent earthquake in California is a wakeup call to everyone. He added that the PRC aims to have at least one first aider in every house.

The PRC, being one of the leading providers of first aid training in the world, provides first aid knowledge designed to meet the needs of companies and communities. This include standard and occupational first aid and basic life support, emergency first aid, junior first aid and water safety programs, among other trainings.
