Press Release July 14, 2019 Statement of Senator Win Gatchalian on the UNHRC Resolution We have a functioning democracy and functioning institutions. The legislative branch of government and the judiciary can exercise oversight of the executive and determine human rights violations, respectively. Moreover, the Commission on Human Rights, which is empowered by the the 1987 Constitution, can investigate human rights violations committed by agents of the government. We do not see the need for an external investigation as our own institutions are in place and are ready to protect the interest and the welfare of our people. |
