Senate Committee on Mass Media to elicit position papers, comments on anti-fake news bill

The Senate Committee on Public Information and Mass Media is eliciting position papers and comments from different individuals, experts, sectors and organizations as reference for the forthcoming hearings.

Chaired by Sen. Bong Revilla, the committee wants to ensure a balanced and objective perspective so that they will come up with a more accurate and appropriate committee report.

Revilla said that the eliciting of position papers and comments is part of public consultation to help his committee decide which version of the anti-fake news bill will reach the plenary session for sponsorship.

The veteran senator also said that they could merge several bills with relevant provisions to come up with a stronger version of the anti-fake news bill.

"Mas mabuti na yung kinakuha natin ang posisyon ng lahat para makapaglabas tayo ng mas komprehensibong resulta," Revilla said.

The first committee hearing is scheduled second week of September.
