Bong Go aids Cainta fire victims; pushes for creation of permanent evacuation centers

Senator Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go extended help on Wednesday noontime, August 21, to 953 individuals who were affected by a fire that broke out on August 19 in Barangay San Isidro, Cainta, Rizal.

The victims, who lived in shanties, gathered at the covered court of Greenpark Village and received financial assistance, lunch and grocery packs from Go and supporters who share the same advocacy of helping victims of calamities and disasters.

The Senator also told the victims that he will take care of the uniform and school supplies of the children so that they can go back to school immediately.

Representatives from various government agencies, such as the Department of Social Welfare and Development, National Housing Authority, and Department of Trade and Industry, were also present to help the victims with their other needs.

Asked about permanent evacuation centers, Go said the construction of such is included in the proposed creation of a Department of Disaster Resilience (DDR). "Kasama na po ito sa DDR. Magkaroon ng maayos na mga evacuation center na komportable po sila, at ngayon po by region pa po ang ating mga evacuation center. Pwedeng dalhin natin ito sa mga siyudad para po magkaroon sila ng mga komportableng higaan. Para sa akin, napaka-importante rin po ng sanitation."

Go has filed Senate Bill No. 205, or the proposed Disaster Resilience Act of 2019, which seeks to create an empowered, highly-specialized and responsive DDR with clear unity of command to respond to the needs of Filipinos affected by natural calamities and disasters.
