Go to visit China with President Duterte

In an interview after the event, Go told reporters that he is going with President Rodrigo Duterte in the latter's six-day visit to China from August 28 to September 2, 2019.

The Senator said he is one of those who received an invitation, not only to the visit but also to the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

Both Duterte and Go are planning to attend the opening ceremonies of the tournament and watch the game between the Philippines and Italy.

It will be a big boost po sa ating team, ang presensya ng ating mahal na Pangulo on the sidelines.

Go said that one of the matters that Duterte and Chinese President Xi Jinping might talk about in their meeting is the reported passing of Chinese warships in Philippine waters without clearance from the Philippine government.

The Senator is confident that the President will fight for the interests of the Philippines but will do so through diplomacy.

Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo earlier said that the President is warning foreign ships of serious consequences if they pass through Philippine territorial waters without proper permission, after the Philippine military reported that Chinese vessels had been observed to be doing so in the past months.

Go said he supports the President's statement.

He believes, though, that the Chinese government respects the Philippines and President Duterte.
