Zubiri expects boost in Accounting with EODB

"With the Ease of Doing Business Act, I am certain that we will see a huge boost in the accounting profession," Senate Majority Leader Migz Zubiri said in his keynote speech at the 19th Annual Convention of the Association of Certified Public Accountants in Public Practice (ACPAPP) held in Aklan on Thursday, 19 September 2019.

Zubiri, the proponent of the Ease of Doing Business and Efficient Government Service Delivery Act, addressed an audience of about seven hundred and forty (740) CPAs. He stressed that the nation will need a strong accounting backbone to keep up with the nation's economic growth.

"Instead of helping our entrepreneurial sector grow, the government and its culture of red tape has done nothing but hamper the sector's efforts, to the detriment of national economic development. This is why I really fought for the passage of EODB," he explained.

"With EODB, we are really targeting higher economic competitiveness, and with that will come a more competitive accounting profession. As we streamline government-and-business transactions, we will be effectively opening our markets to an influx of local entrepreneurs and foreign investors alike, and we need our accounting sector to support that."

"We are lucky to have booming numbers in the accounting sector here in the Philippines," he said. Every year, the local accounting profession welcomes over seven thousand new CPAs, from over twenty thousand examinees. "This leaves us prepared to take on the great changes that will happen now that EODB is underway."
