Bong Go brings aid to Las Piñas fire victims; tells public financial incentives ready for sports medalists

Senator Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go rushed today, October 15 to Las Piñas City to provide aid to 65 individuals who became victims of a fire incident that happened in Satima Upper of Brgy Talon Dos.

Even with his tight schedule in the Senate, Go still went to the evacuation site where the fire victims are temporarily placed, bringing with him some help. He distributed food packs, groceries and cash assistance to the fire victims while also providing uniform and school supplies to students affected by the fire.

"May dala po akong mga grocery, cash assistance para sa inyo," Go told the victims. "Para sa mga estudyante, ako na po ang magbibigay ng uniporme at school supplies para makabalik kayo agad sa paaralan."

Go also comforted the family of one casualty, a child, who died in the incident. The senator talked to the family of the victim and assured that he will provide assistance in any way he can, most especially in applying for housing assistance.

The senator also encouraged victims to go to the nearest hospital and make use of the free services of the Malasakit Center if there is a need for health check-ups. He also added that he is willing to pay for those that need special treatment for specific diseases.

"Marami na pong Malasakit Centers dito sa Maynila. Pumunta po kayo doon para mabigyan kayo ng assistance mula sa iba't ibang ahensya ng gobyerno," Go said.

Go, who has been constantly giving assistance to fire victims whenever he can, also brought with him representatives from the different government agencies, such as the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) that extended financial assistance to the victims.

"Bukod sa dala kong mga assistance, kasama ko rin po ngayon ang mga tauhan ng mga ahensya ng gobyerno na magbibigay po sa inyo ng karagdagang tulong. Narito po ang DSWD at DTI," Go cited.

Meanwhile, in an ambush interview, the senator was happy to announce that on October 16, he and President Rodrigo Duterte will welcome in Malacañang the athletes who have recently brought home medals from international competitions, such as Carlos Yulo who became the first Filipino to win gold in the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships held in Stuttgart, Germany. Yulo's win became a historic feat for Filipino sports, particularly in gymnastics, and also booked him an Olympic ticket together with EJ Obiena.

Aside from Carlos Yulo, both Go and the President will also welcome Nesthy Petecio who also bagged gold in the 2019 AIBA Women's Boxing World Championships and defeated her Russian opponent. Both of these athletes will get to receive incentives from the Philippine Sports Commission. On top of this, the President is also expected to give them financial incentives, as per Go.

"Makakatanggap po sila ng incentive mula sa gobyerno, mula kay Pangulong Duterte bilang incentive sa binigay na honor sa atin to encourage na magsikap pa po na makakuha ng ginto," Go said.

The hope of giving incentives, according to Go, is to encourage athletes to bring home a medal finish most especially in the upcoming 2020 Olympics to be held in Tokyo. Together with other athletes, Hidilyn Diaz for weightlifting, Obiena for pole vaulting, Margielyn Didal for skateboarding, Yulo and Petecio are top prospects in the hope to end the country's gold medal drought.
