Bong Go visits again quake victims in North Cotabato; aims to help children get over the trauma

Senator Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go visited on Friday, November 22, the victims of earthquakes temporarily staying at the provincial capitol of North Cotabato in Barangay Amas, Kidapawan City.

Earlier, financial assistance from the Office of the President was turned over to the local government units to help in the rehabilitation efforts in Kidapawan City and in the municipalities of Magpet and Makilala, which were heavily affected by a series of strong earthquakes.

Go reminded the local government officials to use the funds wisely. "May tiwala kami sa inyong mga local officials, at nakatingin kami diyan, at ang taumbayan ay nakatingin."

He also called for unity and transparency. "Nakikiusap ako sa kanila na walang pulitika dahil ito yung mga panahon na walang pulitika, na walang pinipili. Pera ng tao 'yan. Ibalik natin 'yan, kahit po 'yung mga privately donated na goods. Ito yung panahon na magtulungan tayo."

The visit is the Senator's third time in the areas affected by the earthquakes. "Una sa Tulunan, tapos sa Makilala at Kidapawan, na nag-motor ako," he recalled. He distributed financial and relief assistance then.

Go was also joined by representatives from various government agencies, such as the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of Health (DOH), Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR), National Housing Authority (NHA) and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

He also said he wants to help the affected children overcome the trauma brought about by the disaster. "Sabi ko kay Governor (Nancy Catamco), baka pwede natin silang ipasyal sa Davao. Magpadala tayo ng bus dito, tapos kami na ang sasalo doon sa Davao. Pangpasko lang, para mawala man lang ang takot nila."

After the turnover of financial assistance in Kidapawan, Go proceeded to Digos City to join in the turnover of additional assistance to quake victims there.

During both visits, Senator Go also promised the local officials and residents of North Cotabato and Davao del Sur that respective Malasakit Centers in their province will also be put up soon.
