GOVERNMENT GOT SNARED IN ITS OWN TRAP AGAINST ROBREDO
*Akbayan Senator Risa Hontiveros on the firing of VP Robredo as ICAD co-chair

This is not surprising at all. From the very start, we knew what this administration's intentions were. But when Vice President Leni Robredo courageously responded to the challenge of leading the campaign against illegal drugs, this administration got entangled and became a victim of its own trap.

When Vice President Robredo called their bluff, they got snared in their own trap. The Duterte government blinked and lost. Vice President Robredo won.

Now there can be no doubt that the so-called 'invitation' to work with the Vice President to curb the country's drug problem was nothing but an insincere sham. It also exposed the government's unwillingness to explore and try new approaches and alternatives in the campaign against illegal drugs.

Not only were they not ready for the Vice President, they are terrified of her.

It is laughable that it is Vice President Robredo who got fired first over the public officials responsible for the anomalies and incompetence which now hound our hosting of the Southeast Asian Games (SEA) left and right.

However, the timing of this decision is not surprising to me. We have seen this before. I won't be surprised if this is yet another attempt to draw public attention away from the widespread anomalies and the incompetent and embarassing handling of the SEA Games.

We must not be deceived.
