PNP HONORS GORDON; INVITES HIM AS GUEST SPEAKER ON PNP ETHICS DAY CELEBRATION
The Philippine National Police (PNP) places Senator Richard J. Gordon in high esteem and greatly appreciates his unwavering support to the organization.
This was demonstrated by the PNP's invitation for Gordon to be their guest of honor and speaker during last Monday's flag-raising ceremony which also marked the 23rd PNP Ethics Day.
The event took the theme, "Tapat at May Malasakit na Kapulisan, Sandigan ng Mamamayan tungo sa Kaunlaran."
"...This is an annual celebration in order to continuously remind all PNP personnel to adhere to the Code of Professional Conduct and Ethical Standards. In this regard, may we have the honor of inviting you to be our Guest of Honor and Speaker during this momentous occasion. Your wisdom, experience, and commitment to public service will surely inspire the members of the PNP as we renew our pledge for genuine transformation," said Director General Ronald Dela Rosa.
Dela Rosa heads the PNP which has over 160,000 uniformed and over 9,000 non-uniformed members.
Speaking after the flag-raising ceremony, Gordon called on the law enforcers to live up and act up to police ideals of honor, duty and service.
"When you have a chance to be a police officer, take the opportunity to be the best officer in the whole world. Pumasok kayo sa pulisya, hindi para magkaroon ng kapangyarihan, but to answer the call of service freely," he said.
The senator also pointed out that in order for the whole PNP to become the best police force, change should come from within each and every member of the PNP - uniformed and non-uniformed.
"The first challenge is for each one to be always true to one's self and to always be the protectors of the people against minor challenges, such as enforcement of traffic laws, and major challenges against ISIS, Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) and illegal drugs. Dapat pag humarap ka sa salamin masasabi mo sa sarili mo na ikaw ay mabuting pulis. Kung hindi mo isasapuso ang pagiging mabuting pulis, nobody can change it for you. Sa atin nagsisimula ang pagbabago para magbago ang buong sistema. I would like to see a policeman who can always say every day, 'my children are proud of me,'" he stressed.
